The Intel Core 2 Duo processors are built in several of the world's most advanced, high-volume output manufacturing facilities using Intel's leading silicon process technology. The processor family is based on the revolutionary Intel Core microarchitecture, designed to provide powerful yet energy-efficient performance. With the power of dual cores, or computing engines, the processors can manage numerous tasks faster. They also can operate more smoothly when multiple applications are running, such as writing e-mails while downloading music or videos and conducting a virus scan.a virus scan.ecture, the Intel Core 2 Duo desktop processor delivers revolutionary dual-core performance and breakthrough processor energy efficiency. With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, Intel Smart Memory Access, Intel Advanced Smart Cache and Intel Digital Media Boost, this new processor is designed to do more in less time. Additional features to support enhanced security, virtualization, and 64-bit computing make the Intel Core 2 Duo the most impressive new processor developed for an increasingly multimedia-centered, high-definition world.Design changes in the Intel Core 2 Duo processors that improve performance also increase processor energy efficiency by operating at lower frequencies that require less power to run. Intel Intelligent Power Capability optimizes energy usage of the processor cores by turning on computing functions only when needed. This more energy-efficient processor supports smaller, more capable, and quieter desktop PC to conserve critical power resources.

5Amazing!  Mar 19, 2009
This processor is amazing. If you plan on overclocking I can gurantee you with the right motherboard, this processor will definitely reach over 1GHZ external clock. I am running on a normal gigabyte motherboard which was only $50 and I can overclock it about 700MHZ and still run with great stability. This processor can handle any game you throw at it. I have an nVidia 9600 GSO with and the processor and GPU can handle extreme settings on Fallout 3 without any lag at all. This processor is definitely worth the money.

5Planned to OC this sucker, but their was no need to  Feb 02, 2009
I'm not a huge computer buff, but when my motherboard went out last fall I decided to replace my CPU with it. Rather than do all the research to find out exactly what all the specs mean on a processor, I just started searching for high ranked ones within my price range. I narrowed it down to this one, and several low speed quad cores. Now from my previous experience of going from a 3.0ghz P4 to a 1.86ghz Core 2 Duo, I didn't really notice a huge upgrade in performance. In fact when running a single program the Core 2 was not faster at all, and I found myself overclocking it quite a bit (and even then it was still having trouble matching a P4 - I guess it's because it is a slower clock speed.

Anyways, I bought this and a Zalman cooler with the expectations that I could settle with a core 2 duo and just overclock it since this seems to be a good one for it (much like the e6300 i had before it). Installation was the same as any Intel LGA775 chip, and with my new gigabyte p35 motherboard installed as well I fired this sucker up. Big improvement, I have yet to overclock it and I've had this for 6 months. It is very fast, very smooth, and with my 7900GS I have no trouble running new games at fairly high settings or multitasking like crazy (sometimes two games running at once - dont ask why).

I would strongly recommend buyers to stay away from the quad cores and stick with the core 2 duos until the prices drop. I was less than impressed by the core 2 duos when i upgraded from P4's, but this has completely changed my mind.

43 times as fast as P4 2.8 HT  Jan 23, 2008
Scripts run three times as fast compared to my old P4 2.8Ghz HT, but as far as everyday performance difference it has been a little disappointing. Windows still takes over 30 seconds to start up, and Adobe InDesign takes about 30 seconds to start compared to about 40 seconds with my old P4. I was expecting a little better.

5Core 2 Duo E6850 Processor  Nov 11, 2007
no problems, fast, duel booting vista 32bit and windows 7 64bit
Ran it over clocked for about 6 months but changed back to default setting, really not that much change.

5oh yes, it's fast  Oct 19, 2007
Just built a pretty high-end rig powered by the E6850 and it has met all of my expectations. It's very fast and I have had no problems whatsoever.

System Specs: Asus P5K3 Deluxe Motherboard, Intel E6850 Processor, 2GB Corsair DDR3 RAM, Thermaltake 1200watt PSU, HIS Radeon HD2900XT 1GB Video Card, Soundblaster X-Fi Elite Sound, Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit, Liquid Cooling.

For Asus Mobo users: You will probably get a uCode error when you boot this processor up for the first time. Just flash the BIOS and the error will go away.
